We have put together a list of the pubs and restaurants that we have tried and liked, or that guests have consistently raved about.

There are many pubs and eateries near Home Farm.  We hope you enjoy some of our recommendations – and do let us know if you discover other gems yourself.

Kids menus or portion-sizes are available at all the pubs listed below.  Where dogs are allowed this is stated.  If calling to book, mention if you are bringing a dog.

New Inn at Cross (dogs welcome)

This is no 1 favourite with guests staying at Home Farm Cottages.

“Steve and Emma would like to welcome you to The New Inn.

With their three children, and the resident cocker spaniel Guinness, you will find a warm welcome for families with kids and dogs alike – providing both are well behaved.

We have always had a passion for real food and real ales –

in fact we are CASK MARQUE accredited and have featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the past 10 years running – something that few pubs in the Cheddar Valley can say.

With our large beer garden and its extensive views over the Mendips, out to Glastonbury Tor at the front.

Walk there for lunch either over the top of the Mendips (1 hr), or vis the Strwawberry Line from Winscombe (40 minutes).  Or drive – 3 miles. (Right out of our gate, left at the crossroads, keep going until you see the New Inn on the left).

The Swan in Wedmore (dogs welcome in bar area)

“Welcome to The Swan, our bustling village pub with 7 en-suite bedrooms and an outstanding kitchen led by executive chef Tom Blake from River Cottage, alongside head chef Jack Stoodley.

We’re open all day for a quick drink, a snack or a delicious meal. Come and sit in our bar beside a woodburner, watch the world go by at tables out front, dine in the restaurant or alfresco on the terrace – or just enjoy the peace of the garden.

We have completely refurbished The Swan, sympathetically modernising the building and restoring much of the original eighteenth & nineteenth century architecture. Opening as a Beer House in the early 1700s, the property was subsequently enlarged to become ‘The Swan Hotel’ from the mid 1800s with rooms, stables and coaching yard.

The Swan in Rowberrow (dogs welcome)

The Swan was created from 3 knocked-through miners cottages, overlooking the heather strewn beauty of Beacon Batch. The pub has been around since the late 1700’s, and started life as a cider house but the real draw of The Swan is the food and of course the delicious offering of ale to complement each dish.

4 Miles from Home Farm

Thatchers Railway Inn (dogs welcome in bar area).

A picturesque pub in heart of Sandford that offers unique fresh foods and our complete range of ciders as well as local ales and a selection of quality wines, spirits and minerals.
Our bar area and terraces are dog friendly.
You are also welcome to use our free wifi.

Come to the heart of the village and enjoy this traditional country pub, with its welcoming bar area and open fireplace. Natural stone features, comfortable surroundings and a traditional oak-framed dining room create a fantastic space in which to relax, eat and drink.

Eat in the informal bar area or in the dining room. Expert food and cider pairings come highly recommended and all dishes, created in the new kitchen, shine with their expert execution, taste and flavour.

In the landscaped pub gardens you’ll find plenty of outdoor seating, a children’s play area and an outdoor pizza oven and BBQ.

Il Giardino – Fine Dining on Clevedon Beach Front

A family-run Italian restaurant established over 30 years ago by Francesco and Adriana Sormani.

”It was in 1987 that the couple decided to uproot from Bristol , where they had already created a successful Italian restaurant called Sormani’s, and re-locate to the sunny beachfront of Clevedon – a little slice of paradise, that on an extremely good day, can be compared to riviera in Italy itself.

With four little ones in tow, the pair set about creating a legacy for their children, and ultimately their children’s children. And that is what Il Giardino is all about. A family-run restaurant, built-up using the wealth of experience that Francesco and Adriana had garnered from a history in catering spanning decades.

Good, honest food, sourced from local suppliers, coupled with the virtues of traditional service – these are the values which underpin this family-restaurant’s ethos. We hope that you enjoy the experience.

Michelin Star ‘The Olive’ in Bath

THE ONLY MICHELIN STAR RATED RESTAURANT IN BATH

Bath is surrounded by soft green hills and beautiful, rolling countryside. How lovely for it, you say. But wait: those hills are home to muscular, well-fed animals. That countryside teems with an abundance of fruit and vegetables. Highly revered by other top restaurants, Bath is lucky to have the Olive Tree. Our restaurant uses these local riches to create a frequently-changing menu of beautiful, fresh, seasonal dishes.

Sample them at a thrillingly-priced lunch or linger longer over dinner. But do sample them.

Proud to be one of Bath’s longest established independent restaurants, the 3 AA Rosette Olive Tree provides one of the best experiences of fine dining Bath has to offer.

The restaurant continues to receive rapturous praise from guests and locals alike, making new friends and winning awards each year, not just for its food but for its brilliant wine list too. It sits snugly in the basement of the Queensberry Hotel, which has recently been awarded an extra AA star, taking it to four. Priding itself on blending old-fashioned attitudes to service and detail with sophisticated, modern comfort, this is one of the finest Bath boutique hotels, proudly independent and run by a husband and wife, Laurence & Helen Beere. It is stylish and slightly eccentric, being the result of four lovely old townhouses coming together to create a truly one-off hotel.

Beneath it, this contemporary British restaurant offers informal fine dining under the direction of award winning head chef, Chris Cleghorn, who honed his superior skills as the protégé of a trio of world-renowned Michelin Star chefs, (Heston Blumenthal, Michael Caines, Adam Simmonds).

Using a combination of classical flavours with modern cooking techniques, Chris creates his own unique style, crafting menus that showcase the best of Bath and the best of British.
